Install Subshell Client
Install Subshell Client to run agents on your machine and access an existing server.
Before you start
You need a reachable Subshell server address and an account on that server. Subshell Client does not create a control plane.
Subshell Client is the recommended way to install a node on a desktop machine. It bundles the node binary and provides its local management window.
Download and connect
- Open Subshell downloads, select the option to run agents here or watch, and download Subshell Client for your platform.
- Install and open Subshell Client.
- Choose Connect to a server and enter the server's reachable address.
- Open the dashboard and sign in with your Subshell account.
The client loads the server's own web interface. In the server dashboard, choose Subshells in the sidebar, open a session's ⋯ menu, and select Open in browser to open the corresponding page in your system browser, where you may need to sign in again.
Run agents on this machine
Node management is a separate window in Subshell Client. Choose Window → Open Client App in its menu bar, or Open Client App in its tray menu to reach it. Follow Desktop node setup to enter a setup key, enroll the bundled node, and choose how it stays running. You can also use the client only to watch sessions without enrolling this machine.
Use the node-management window to configure local execution. The dashboard window displays sessions and settings from your server.
Updates and reset
To update the app and its bundled node, choose Check for Updates… from Subshell Client's tray menu, or select the available-update item when one is offered. To reset the node, open the local window with Open Client App and select Reset in its sidebar. Resetting the node removes its enrollment; it does not reset the remote server. Read Unenroll a node before removing its identity.
