Subshell Docs

Node services

Run the node daemon as a background service.

Before you start

Enroll the node and verify its configuration. Linux uses a systemd user unit; macOS uses a launchd user agent.

Install and inspect

subshell service install
subshell service status

Installation starts the daemon and enables start at login. Use service install --no-autostart to start it now without enabling future login startup.

Change that preference later without stopping the running daemon:

subshell service autostart off
subshell service autostart on

Start, stop, and restart

subshell service start
subshell service stop
subshell service restart

These commands operate on an installed service. They do not install one automatically.

A restart can refuse when the service definition would kill live panes. Inspect the running work before considering --force; it accepts the reported disruption.

Linux logout behavior

A user service may stop when the account logs out. For unattended operation, arrange lingering through the host administrator. Start-at-login and lingering are separate settings.

To remove the service definition, use subshell service uninstall. That does not remove enrollment credentials.
